What We've Done So Far...
After producing the first annual top ten list of under-reported stories out of
the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University, PCC welcomed the
participation of students (and co-director James Winter) in the Department
of Communication Studies at the University of Windsor in 1994. Co-ordinating
the two groups of student researchers under their respective project directors
was challenging, but the increased number and breadth of perspectives involved
in the research and selection of short-listed stories enhanced the quality of
the annual list.
In the upcoming year, students at the University of Windsor shall also focus
their attention on the alternative press in Canada and recently published books,
adding yet another dimension to the PCC analysis of the Canadian news agenda.
Also, the University of Windsor participants will produce a 'junk-food list'
of the most over-reported stories of 1995. Jensen and Project Censored USA
use their annual junk-food list to reflect on the differences between what
stories do and do not receive much attention in the mainstream press.
In its first two years PCC has raised its own profile through the publication
of the first two Yearbooks and through public presentations by members of PCC.
PCC has also received some attention from the mainstream and alternative press.
