Some inspiration for InContext Submissions
2009/03/24
Don't have an idea but want to write for InContext?
We've got a load of ideas in this e-mail to help stimulate some of those creative thoughts we know all Communication students possess. Please keep reading!
Already writing your own blog?
Send your blog's URL and a quick description to jkw1@sfu.ca so we can include it in our Blog Roll.
Interweb of Happiness
InContext will have a section for sharing sources of procrastination/inspiration/good fun. Come across any excellent sites that deserve to be shared with fellow Communication students? Sites such as wordle.net or onesentence.com? Send any of your buried Interweb treasures to Jocelyn at jkw1@sfu.ca!
Mindless doodle or random epiphany?
We know everyone doodles on their notes in class at some point. Got one worth sharing? Scan it and send it to jkw1@sfu.ca. Don't have access to a scanner? Just let Jocelyn know and she'll plan to scan your doodle for you (returning your valuable notes afterward, of course).
Article topic ideas
Feel free to take these ideas and make them your own. Our creative juices were flowing and hope they inspire you to write something. Remember, your submission can be as little as 350 words and as long as 750. Or send us a photo about these topics too!
* The Fallacy of Co-op? Insights/truths behind those not-for-credit university experiences
Had a rough experience with co-op? Horrible boss, or disappointments with the co-op process? We always hear about the greatness of co-op but what about the downsides that future students should consider?
* To Share or Not to Share: A look at the conflicting ideals of the Internet and the music community
In terms of music sharing, consider how the Internet could be a tool for community wealth and development, or simply a vehicle for copyright infringement.
* Is It Time to Re-Face Facebook?
Earlier this semester, the CMNSU held a social event at the Highland Pub to get Communciation students interacting in-person and build social community rather than just communicating over Facebook. We'd be very interested to hear your take on how Facebook is or is not addressing the idea of community buildling.
* The Best Electives for Communication Students
How about an overview of the elective courses you and your friends have taken that best compliment or supplement your CMNS studies. In the article, tell us why you feel these topics are related to Communications. This article or list of courses will be an awesome resource to share with other students!
* The Student Networker: When is it too early to start?
Send us your written perspective on how students can network (e.g. face-to-face, online, through mutual friends, cold contact, etc. ), for what reasons (e.g., career, social connections, study buddies, etc.) and any tips on how best to do networking. What are the benefits of networking while being a student? What are some tips on what not to do when networking?
One more thing! Do not limit yourself to the suggested theme of COMMUNITY. We are open to any article topics, poetry, photographs, etc.
If you have any questions, you can contact Jocelyn Wagner, InContext 2009 editor-in-chief at jkw1@sfu.ca
