MEDIA EDUCATION THROUGH DIGITAL PRODUCTION FOR CHILDREN

Prerequisites. Must take or have taken equivalent of CMNS 320 and have permission of Instructor.; then advisor enrols you.

 

Course Description:

 

This companion course to CMNS 320 is a workshop and seminar which focuses on the analysis and production of digital media for children. The course applies the theory and critical analysis covered in CMNS 320 in the creative production of media which create viable alternatives for children and youth.

 

The workshops will focus on four production exercises which sequentially will familiarize students with media production concepts, strategies and techniques including camera work, editing, animation, sound design and story-telling.

 

1)      On-line video reviews of programming for children

2)      Media education trigger films for children’s media education

3)      Animated stories based on books

4)      Portraits of  children’s  culture

Assessment:

 

Assignment # 1- reviews                                   20%

Assignment # 2- media ed                                 20%

Assignment # 3- story                                       25%

Assignment # 4- portrait                                   25%

Participation                                                     10%

 

The School expects that the grades awarded in this course will bear some reasonable relation to established university-wide practices with respect to both levels and distribution of grades.  In addition, the School will follow Policy T10.02 with respect to “Intellectual Honesty”, and “Academic Discipline” (see the current Calendar, General Regulations Section).
