Geographies, Alternatives Cartographies: Crime Mapping and the Prefiguration of Disposability

In this seminar Dr. Burman will discuss her research on online crime mapping, with a particular focus on how the LA Times' maps narrate the lives and deaths of the Black women killed by Lonnie Franklin Jr. She is am interested in the stories these maps tell, but also in alternative modes of storytelling (or story-hacking) and potential and actual counter-mapping strategies.
