Images, icons and files
Icons are an effective way to intuitively represent content by using symbols. However, before you consider using icons, you should be aware of the following:
- Icons should be used sparingly and only in instances when there is a clear and consistent usage for them across the site
- If an icon needs a title or supporting text, it shouldn’t be used
- Icon design needs to align to SFU branding
- Connotations can vary widely across cultures and therefore icons might create ambiguity
