Team SFUNucleus takes third position at Canada’s Cyber Security Challenge Regional Event.

On Saturday, November 5th, 2022 from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, we had seven student teams from four BC institutions (NYIT, SFU, UBC, UVic) competing in the Regional CyberSci Challenge event for the West Coast. This year’s event was hosted by SFU Computing Science. Across Canada, 45 teams from the 26 schools competed in Saint John, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. Two external experts from Air Canada and Mandiant served as judges. The core competition extended over four hours resulting in three winning teams:

1st Place: Team Maple Bacon - UBC

2nd Place: Team PencilTesters - UVic

3rd Place: Team SFUNucleus – SFU

The top team will continue to the national finals in Ottawa in June 2023. Top players from Nationals will go to Euro Finals (Oslo, Norway) in October 2023.

CyberSci is a national initiative with the mission to enhance Canada’s cyber security capacity by enticing bright and energetic individuals to join our country’s ranks of cyber security professionals. This initiative helps Canada keep up or surpass other countries’ capabilities in the cyber security industry!

After the competition all three winning teams were invited to interviews on site with Air Canada.
