A growing B.C. start-up launched by two Simon Fraser University graduates has been recognized as one of British Columbia’s 20 Most Innovative Companies by BC Business Magazine. 

HiretheWorld, co-founded in 2009 by Beedie School of Business alumnus Terry Beech and School of Computing Science alumnus Arash Afrooze, allows employers to hire remote workers on a per project basis to tackle anything from programming and design to bookkeeping and copywriting.  HiretheWorld’s third founder, Terry’s twin brother, Doug Beech, is a graduate of Vancouver Island University.

HiretheWorld was also an early participant in SFU’s Venture Connection program and is a current participant with VentureLabs, enabling the firm to receive expert mentorship and business acceleration support and services as it grows.

With workers in 125 countries, the HiretheWorld community provides employers access to a global network of workers who are capable of completing any task that can be completed online.

The list of 20 Most Innovative Companies from BC Business Magazine recognizes the most creative organizations in British Columbia that are shaping the future of the province with their cutting-edge ideas.

Some notable companies in B.C. from previous iterations of the Top 20 Innovators in B.C. lists include HootSuite Media, Lululemon Athletica, AbeBooks, VanCity and NowPublic. 

"Our team is always trying new things, solving new problems and it's very exciting that we're getting to a point where organizations like BC Business are starting to notice," said Beech, who is also an instructor of entrepreneurship and strategy at the Beedie School of Business. "When you look at the success of some past winners, I think it says a lot about what we're doing and where we're headed."
