Presenters

Who can present?

We invite presentations from educators from all fields! Many of our presenters are SFU faculty, staff, students and alumni, but submissions are also accepted from outside the SFU community.

Are you a K-12 teacher? A TA or TM? A Sessional? An instructor? An early childhood educator? An adult educator?

If you teach students of any age, in any subject and feel that you have a great idea about teaching to share, then we want to hear from you!

What will be presented?

This is not an academic conference - we are looking for engaging ideas, grounded in the classroom. While you can certainly refer to theory, if you so please, proposals should be focused on teaching practice!

We are looking for proposals that address a specific aspect of your work as an educator, such as a strategy you have used to engage students, a technique for effective evaluation, a particular teaching tool you have used, or an innovative project or assignment that you have created for your class. Although our audience will be interdisciplinary, your proposal should be specific  - your presentation does not need to be about an idea that will work easily in any setting, as a good idea can be adapted by other educators to fit their classes, and can inspire new ways of thinking and teaching.

What format will the presentations have?

There will be 7-10 presentations per SFU Educator Talk event, and each presentation will last approximately six minutes and forty seconds.  The presentations will have a Pecha Kucha format, where each presenter will prepare 20 visual slides (no text), and will have 20 seconds to talk about each slide. This format, originating in Tokyo, is used world-wide as a way to facilitate visually engaging presentations that allow for concise and fun information sharing.

All presenters will be asked to submit their twenty images prior to the event.

How do I apply to present?

Please fill out the application form and email it to us. Our first round of applications for Vol. 2 will close on March 30th, 2016.

If you have any questions about the application, please send us an email.

How will applications be selected?

Applications will be selected by a review committee, based on the clarity of the proposal submitted, and its ability to appeal to educators from a variety of disciplines.

We aim to include educators from a variety of fields, and at various stages in their careers. If we were to receive a large number of excellent applications all from the same field, we would invite some of the applicants to present at our second SFU Educator Talks, so as to ensure a diverse line-up of presenters at each event.
