A philosopher and fully paid-up member of the precariat, Alan has taught ethics, critical thinking, existentialism and all sorts of philosophy to undergraduate students for 12 years.
He’s driven a school bus around Southern Ontario and operated as a small business creating text. Before converting to philosophy, he was a regular member of society working as an IT manager on the fringes of Bay Street. In 2016, he moved to Vancouver for the climate.
Alan thinks that philosophy is above all a practical concern: it should help you to lead a good life no matter what your personal circumstances. It can do this through reasoned and respectful discussion of perhaps uncomfortable ideas and issues that confront us every day—through Philosophers' Cafés, in fact! In making ourselves a little better, we make the world a little better too.
