Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring

Learn to plan your approach to business analysis more effectively.

In this course you'll explore the dichotomy between plan-driven and change-driven approaches to business analysis. You'll also learn the basics of management tools, such as stakeholder analysis, activity plans, communication plans and performance assessment. Once you understand the management tools, we'll introduce you to the first step in developing an analysis.

What will I learn?

After completing this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Explain the terms and concepts for the effective management of a business analysis process
  • Develop a stakeholder analysis
  • Create a plan for business analysis activities
  • Develop a communications plan for an analysis
  • Assess the performance of a business analysis process
  • Complete a business process mapping exercise
  • Develop a further understanding of business process improvement

How will I learn?

The course features a wide variety of instructional techniques, including facilitated group discussions, thought-provoking exercises that encourage experimentation and analysis, and instructor presentations of theory and best practices.

You will complete regular course reading and participate in exercises, group discussions, case studies and presentations.

How will I be evaluated?

We’ll evaluate your performance in this course on a pass/fail basis using a combination of in-class or take-home assignments, individual or group projects, presentations, participation and attendance. We expect you to participate in discussions and activities and complete all assignments.

Textbooks and learning materials

To complete the Business Analysis Certificate program you will need to pass all nine courses and the final examination. You will also be expected to have read A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide v3), which you can purchase through the IIBA website. In this course, we will reference relevant chapters of the BABOK® Guide.
