The Executive Reader: Reading for Speed and Comprehension
This is more than a speed-reading course. Originally designed for students in Simon Fraser University's Executive MBA program, it is intended to help executives manage their reading at work and prepare for demanding study. This course introduces analytical methods that increase speed and comprehension as well as techniques that are applicable in business and educational settings.
Prerequisites
We recommend a business-related reading workload and an interest in management and/or graduate studies.

What will I learn?
By the end of the course, you will be able to do the following:
- Explain how increasing reading speed increases comprehension, then demonstrate a substantial increase in your speed and comprehension
- Describe the uses of vocalization, sub-vocalization, and efficient eye movement in the reading process
- Recognize common organizational patterns in text material
- List the 10 factors that improve retention of material content
- Develop and explain an efficient personal system for loading information into long-term memory through distributed learning
- Diagram the information in a text chapter
- Master a process of organizing complex material graphically for use as a communication tool
- List the steps in the previewing process, efficiently preview a text, and define the material that you need to master
- Overlay information on one topic from a variety of sources
- Create and use a template to analyze studies and research documents
