Giving Effective Speeches and Presentations

Improve your presentation skills through two days of workshop-style learning with a small group of your peers. Learn how to quickly prepare and rehearse a presentation, deliver with poise and conviction, and handle impromptu speaking opportunities. Practise techniques for reading and creating a bond with your audience, and making your message memorable.

An optional half-hour of coaching via Skype or phone is included in the course fee. You must take it within the three months of finishing the course.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course, you will be able to do the following:

  • Prepare, rehearse, and deliver speeches confidently and capably—even when you are short on time
  • Develop an audience-centred approach to communication that allows you to connect with and respond to listeners
  • Appreciate how anxiety contributes to poor communication and manage your anxiety
  • Maintain posture that conveys confidence and sustain purposeful eye contact with your audience
  • Use your voice to project and emphasize key points in your speech, using an effective vocabulary, gestures, and pauses that add impact
  • Create, edit, and use slides and other visuals appropriately
  • Deliver impromptu speeches in an organized, succinct manner, and rapidly organize longer presentations and speeches
  • Quickly learn your presentation material so that notes are only an aid
  • Incorporate appropriate stories, examples, and humorous material to further win audience attention and illustrate key points
  • Develop techniques for practise and self-assessment
