Speech Writing
Of all the writing assignments freelance and staff writers take on, speechwriting can be the most complex, interesting, intense, and enjoyable. They get to write on all sorts of topics and put words in people's mouths. They also get to help in articulating government or corporate policy or help launch a new product.

What will I learn?
The course will cover, in-depth, the five elements of an engaging speech:
- Oratory
- Event
- Language
- Story
- Humour
There are other critical considerations when you agree to an assignment:
- Why it is so important yet so hard to get the letter of invitation to your client to deliver a speech
- Meeting the speaker—when it is a good idea and when it is a bad idea
- Finding your client’s voice and figuring out messaging
- Research—how much is enough?
- Outlines—vital or an invitation to disaster?
- Writing and rewriting, from the first draft to the final draft that is ready to hand in
- Openings—the first three make-or-break minutes
- Writing for the ear and delivery issues
- Dealing with difficult clients/speakers
By the end of the course, you will be able to take speechwriting assignments.
