Introduction to HTML/CSS and Web Mechanics
This class is designed to give beginners the fundamental technical knowledge they need to excel as Internet marketing professionals.
You’ll learn basic HTML, CSS, and XML, how these languages are used to create websites, how to use a content management system such as Wordpress, and how databases, servers, and browsers function together to form the Internet. We’ll also provide a historical overview of how today’s web was created and bring you up to date on the latest technical trends on the web.
This course is available only as part of the Digital Communications Certificate.
What will I learn?
This course will cover the following:
- The history of the web
- How websites, browsers, and servers function to bring us the Internet
- Basic HTML, CSS, and XML
- How to use a content management system (CMS) such as Wordpress
- Hosting and purchasing web domains
- Communicating with web developers, including quotes and the scope of their work
How will I learn?
This is a lecture-based course. You will receive explanations and demonstrations in class and participate in group discussions and in-class exercises. You will also complete regular course reading and take-home projects. By the end of the course, you will have completed a basic HTML/CSS website.
In addition to regular attendance and class participation, you will complete the following:
- One assignment
- In class presentations
- In-class work
