What happened to utopia?

Since the collapse of the Berlin wall, there has been a dearth of inspiring visions for the future. Humanity seems to be trying to prevent political and environmental collapse rather than moving forward to an ideal outcome. Are we beyond utopian thinking, or just depressed? Can we conjure up a credible utopia?
