Joan B. Flood was born in Ireland and lived briefly in France and England before settling in Canada. Her poetry, short fiction and non-fiction have been published in anthologies in Canada, the U.S. and Australia.

Her young adult novel, New Girl, won the Orpheus Fiction Contest and was published in the U.S. Her story 87 won honourable mention in the Binnacle Ninth Annual Ultra-Short Story Competition 2012 (U.S.). 

Left Unsaid, her adult novel, was published by Signature Editions in 2017.  

A graduate of Simon Fraser University’s the Writer’s Studio (TWS), she was a mentor for SFU's Southbank Writer’s Program, has presented workshops on writing, and has done manuscript consults, both privately and through the TWS outreach programs with the Vancouver Public Library and Surrey Central Library.
