Ed Steinhart

Ed Steinhart is a professor emeritus at Texas Tech University, Lubbock. He received his PhD in African History from Northwestern University and taught history at the University of Chicago, the University of Texas (Austin), the University of the West Indies (Jamaica), the University of Nairobi (Kenya), and the University of Zambia (Lusaka).

He has published two books and many articles on East African history and ethnography, as well as contributing book reviews to journals on three continents. An anti-apartheid activist for 30 years, he worked with American, Canadian, and British-based movements for the liberation of southern Africa. He retired from full-time teaching and immigrated to Canada in 2008.
