SFU's Aboriginal Pre-Health Program is a unique selection of university courses that integrate health science with Indigenous perspectives, values and customized curriculum. In successfully completing the program, you'll earn conditional acceptance to SFU as well as academic credit toward an SFU degree.

Prepare to excel in a supportive environment

Designed for all students of First Nation, Métis and Inuit heritage who are thinking of pursuing a health career, this eight-month program will prepare you to excel in your undergraduate degree, strengthen your community, and pursue a rewarding career in health care such as nursing, midwifery, public health or medicine.

This program is cohort-based, which means you'll benefit from the shared experience and support of your classmates as you move through the program together. Aboriginal Elders, health practitioners, and other health professionals will provide encouragement, and tutors will provide subject-specific guidance. You'll also become familiar with SFU and our student services.

Learn from SFU faculty members

Throughout the program, you'll learn from experienced faculty members. The curriculum includes following:

  • University pre-requisites in academic writing and mathematics
  • University credit courses in health sciences, biology and chemistry, with a specific focus on Aboriginal health and wellness issues
  • Study skills, managing stress, motivation and traditional approaches to wellness
