Certificate in Professional Coaching

Change lives as a professional coach

In the words of Eric Schmidt, a former Google CEO, “Everyone needs a coach.” As individuals, teams, and organizations deal with growth, restructuring, and other kinds of change, there is increasing demand for professional coaches to help people manage and embrace this change, fulfill their potential, accomplish goals, execute strategies, and enhance their performance. As a result, coaching has become one of the fastest-growing professions in recent years.

Graduate with the skills you need to coach effectively

SFU’s part-time Certificate in Professional Coaching will build your understanding, skills, and coaching presence so you can help individuals, teams, and organizations reach their highest level of effectiveness. It is also an excellent first step toward professional coaching certification.

We’ll train you to plan, promote, and implement coaching services in a variety of organizational settings, incorporate coaching into your current role, and establish yourself in a coaching career.

You’ll also learn a three-stage coaching process that you can apply to individuals, teams, and organizations.

Throughout the program, which takes place at SFU Vancouver, you’ll explore several topics that will strengthen your coaching capacity: adult development, change, multiple perspectives, story, self as instrument, and the quaternity (also known as a person’s four-part harmony). You’ll also develop key coaching skills such as establishing a coaching presence, power questioning, managing progress, and accountability.

Learn from certified coaching professionals

We have developed this part-time certificate program, which is aligned with the International Coach Federation’s core coaching competencies and training requirements, in consultation with coaching industry leaders. Maintain your professional coaching status with continuing education units

Each course in this professional certificate program except Capstone is pre-approved for continuing education credits from Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Canada (VRAC) and the College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals (CVRP).
