New Media Journalism Certificate

Program structure

Five weeks of journalism courses

For the first five weeks of the New Media Journalism Certificate program, you’ll attend classes Wednesday to Saturday from 9 to 4 at SFU Surrey. You’ll spend 120 hours total in class.

Put everything into practice in a practicum

During your three-week (120-hour) practicum, you’ll typically work Monday to Friday from 9 to 5, but you may need to do some after-hours and weekend work. Visit our practicum section for details.

Coursework: What to expect

Our new media journalism courses are university-level and typically require daily preparation. They're designed to help you share your experience and ideas with your peers. You may have in-class or take-home assignments and individual or group projects.

Graduation requirements

Complete all required journalism courses and the practicum with an overall grade of B in order to complete the New Media Journalism Certificate.
