Career Development Practitioner Certificate: Career Management (part-time)

Make a difference as a career development practitioner

Employment changes lives. Be a part of the change by helping people take their next steps toward a new career and a better future. Career development practitioners do far more than help people write résumés. The profession is about helping people find their passions, skills and talents; determining where they fit in the job market; and then guiding people to the right jobs.

Graduate with the skills you need to work in employment counselling or career development

SFU’s Career Development Practitioner Certificate: Career Management Stream consists of eleven courses (eight core courses and three stream courses). The core courses will teach you about career development theories, career planning and assessment, job research, job development, job search skills, group facilitation, career program development, and more.

The stream courses consist of three career management courses that will develop your career transition, talent management and coaching skills, preparing you for various career development related job opportunities in educational, public, and corporate settings.

After this hands-on training, you’ll be ready to plan and implement detailed career development programs for clients, offer employment counselling services, lead Job Finding Clubs, and develop job placements.

Get certified or earn continuing education units

Each course in the program is pre-approved for continuing education credits from Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Canada (VRAC) and the College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals (CVRP).

Further, as a graduate of the program, you’ll be equipped to pursue certification as a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) and a Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP).

Study part-time at SFU Surrey

Your classes meet one evening and one full Saturday per week at SFU Surrey, which means you can continue working while you study—and you could graduate in only eight months.
