Open your eyes to the potential of urban design
Designing functional, sustainable, and beautiful places is the urban design challenge of this century. Urban design explores the art and science of place-making and place-keeping. It includes the collaboration of architecture, landscape architecture, planning, civil engineering, and a host of other disciplines that help explore the full potential of our cities, towns, and villages.
Take an interdisciplinary approach to urban design at SFU
In SFU’s Urban Design Certificate, you’ll study the economic, social, and environmental considerations involved in sustainable urban design. You’ll also enhance your visual communication skills and choose electives in transportation, urban revitalization, the public realm, integrated neighbourhoods, and more. Then you’ll apply what you learn in two practical studio courses.
Learn from leading urban designers in cities across Canada
We bring together a variety of leading urban design professionals who are passionate about planning, designing, and building livable communities. We offer most of our courses in Vancouver, with select offerings in Ottawa, Edmonton, and Calgary. All of our urban design courses are short and intensive—perfect for busy mid-career professionals.
