Seven honorary degree recipients will be honoured at Convocation Fall 2021.
Outdoor Ceremony Notice
Convocation ceremonies are held outdoors. Please dress accordingly.
All ceremonies will be broadcast live online at www.sfu.ca/convocation.
This event and attendees will be photographed and/or videotaped by SFU. If you do not wish to be in the photos or video, please step aside when you see the camera. The full SFU privacy notice is available here.
Health and safety
The health and well-being of SFU’s students, staff, faculty, guests and the university community is SFU’s top priority. Convocation will be conducted with the utmost attention to health and safety.
All in-person attendees will be required to adhere to the provincial and convocation health and safety protocols including showing proof of vaccination, mandatory wearing of masks in all indoor common areas and registering to attend in-person.
As is necessary during these unpredictable times, we must acknowledge that proceeding with these events in-person will remain dependent on public health regulations. Should public health regulations change for events and gatherings, convocation and related events may be held virtually.
NOTE: Reserved seating privileges for SFU staff and faculty are non-transferable.
There is a limited number of seats in the reserved area for staff and faculty who are celebrating the graduation of a special relative or friend. Up to two seats* per staff/faculty may be reserved on a first come, first served basis by submitting you registration online before Sept. 21, 2021.
*Note: We are asking staff and faculty to please not over strain the university's resources during these important convocation ceremonies. Please limit guests coming to SFU to the two (2) guests who will be attending the ceremony.
CHECKING IN AT THE CEREMONY
Upon arrival, all guests will be required to check in at the west side of Convocation Mall. Early arrival is strongly recommended. Check-in will be open 1 hour before each ceremony. Seats will be reserved under the name of the staff or faculty that reserved the seats.

Faculty members who wish to walk in the Academic Procession are asked to register before Sept. 21, 2021. Even if you own your regalia, it is necessary that you register online to ensure you have a seat on the platform. Information about the academic procession can be found in the resource section in the right column at the top of the page.
