International Students
In addition to the co-op requirements for your degree (please see appropriate section), international students must obtain a co-op work permit (This is different from an off-campus work permit).
Canada Immigration requires that students who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents apply for a Co-op work permit in order to work in a Co-op position. A letter requesting this work permit is prepared for each international student accepted to the Co-op Program.
It is your responsibility to obtain this letter from Arts and Social Sciences Co-op and take it to International Services for Students in the Maggie Benston Centre as soon as possible. The authorization process can be lengthy, and if you do not have this authorization at the time you are offered a Co-op position, you will not be legally able to accept it. There are fines and other ramifications involved if you participate in the Co-op program without a valid Co-op work permit.
