Students WORKING in Spring 2012: Plan for a site visit in February/March and register for your Presentation Session taking place late August/beginning of September.

Students NEW to Communication Co-op - In Spring and Seeking a Fall 2012 Work Term

1	Jan 5	Semester Begins
1-12	Jan - Apr	BOL I is offered in various sessions throughout each semester. The two main topics are: Skills Transfer and Effective Communication. You will complete BOL I after you submit your general application to co-op and receive a welcome email from Communication Co-op program. To register for BOL I, please go toSymplicity. Login with your SFU email (including @sfu.ca) and click on the Events Calendar.
1-12	Jan - Apr	Co-op Workshop Series Workshops on resume and cover letter writing and developing your interview skills. In order to be released to seek for Co-op jobs in Summer 2012, these workshops must be completed prior to your one-on-one meeting with a Coordinator. Please register on Symplicity.
5-6	Feb 1, 3, 6, 7	New Student Session for Fall 2012 Co-op This session will orient you to the Communication Co-op program, provide information, answer your questions and show you some of the great opportunities available. You must complete this session prior to your first one-on-one session. Students must bring their completed application package to the session. Please register on Symplicity.**
14 - 17	Starting April	New Student One-on-One Meeting with a Coordinator Once you have completed BOL 1, attended the resume and cover letter workshops and attended the new student session, register on Symplicity for your private 45 minute session. You can review CMNS - FA12 - Communication Guru test job for sample positions, or find one on your own. Research the organization to tailor your cover letter. Bring in the job description, along with your resume and cover letter for a coordinator to review and provide feedback. All students new to Communication Co-op are required to complete this step by end of April 2012 in order to be released to seek jobs for Fall 2012.

Students Seeking a Summer 2012 Work Term - Application to Co-op Completed and Communication Co-op Requirements Met OR One or More Work Terms Completed

3-4	Jan 23 - Jan 31	One-on-One Meeting with a Coordinator Register on Symplicity for your private 45 minute session. You can review CMNS - SU12 - Communication Guru for sample positions, or find one on your own. Research the organization to tailor your cover letter. Bring in the job description, along with your resume and cover letter for a coordinator to review and provide feedback.
4	Feb 5	Deadline to upload your updated resume, SIS and transcript to Symplicity
4	Jan 25	Round One Posting Deadlines Begin First deadlines for Communication Co-op postings begin and continue until end of March, when Lightning Round begins (see below).
4-12	end of Jan - Apr	Postings & Interviews Continual postings and interviews throughout the semester.
13	Mar 28	Lightning Round begins
13	Apr - end of May	Lightning Round Coordinators will forward student applications to employers based on student preferences noted in their Lightning Round Questionnaire. Positions will continue to be filled in the first month of the following semester.
1-12	All semester	BOL II is offered in various sessions throughout each semester; the main topics are: Personal Management and Workplace 101. You may register for BOL II anytime after you have successfully completed BOL I. Students are required to complete BOL II prior to the start of their first Co-op work term. Register onSymplicity.
14	Dec 5	Last Day of Classes

6-12	Feb - Mar	Site Visits A Coordinator will contact you to schedule work site meetings with you and your supervisor. Should you require assistance from a Coordinator prior to the visit, please call the Communication Co-op office. Further details are available on our During Your Placement page.
14-1	Aug end - early Sept	Returning Students Presentation Sessions Burnaby and Harbour Centre dates to be announced. This session is for students returning from Sprng 2012 work term and is a requirement for the successful completion of your work term. Please see details on our During Your Placement page. Register on Symplicity once the dates are announced by e-mail.
