Congratulations on being admitted into the Health Sciences Co-op Program!

Students should attend some of the many specialized free workshops offered by the Co-operative Education Program. Check the Important Dates section for the times that best fit your schedule.

After you have the completed the mandatory All-In-One workshop or individual resume, cover letter, and Interview workshops, you should meet with your Coordinator to review your resume and sample cover letter. Your Coordinator will help you make any edits or needed improvements before you start actually applying for jobs.

If you want to gain a head-start and some experience, it’s a great idea to volunteer.
Why volunteer?
- To gain valuable career related experience
- To make friends To improve your self-confidence/esteem
- To enhance your life
- To learn new skills: technical or personal
- To use your skills
- To expand your network
- To impress future employers & professional schools
SFU's Volunteer Services is a great resource with hundreds of links to active volunteer organizations as well as current volunteer opportunities.

Once your acceptance into the Science Co-op program is confirmed you will be given authorization to access your personal Co-op account on Symplicity.
Symplicity is your one-stop-shop to browse, apply and secure Co-op jobs.
The system manages all job postings, online applications, interview notification, and interview scheduling. Check the Jobs and Opportunities section daily since positions are posted frequently and may only be online for a few days. The Symplicity Student Guide provides an excellent overview of how to use the system.
Step 1. Gain Access to Symplicity
Whether you're a new or returning student, you will need to enter Symplicity (our online job posting system), update your information for the semester you wish to work (ie May-August choose SU-yyyy) and upload your transcript from goSFU (instructions can be obtained from your co-op coordinator).
Step 2. Applications
Applications are uploaded and assembled in the Documents section of Symplicity. Students must include the following documents (in this order) when creating a portfolio:
- Student Information Summary (SIS) Form.
- Your Cover Letter written specifically for the position you are applying for.
- Your Resume.
- Your unofficial Transcript.
Step 3. Interviewing
Check your e-mail daily to see if you've been shortlisted for an interview. If you receive a message “shortlisting” you for a job, sign up for an interview time slot in the Interview section of Symplicity.
Students are encouraged to meet with their Coordinator before each interview in order to prepare. Work reports from previous co-op students may also be available for review. Please check with Co-op Program Assistant in P9447 for work report availability.
