You’ve applied to jobs, been to interviews, had a co-op job offer and have accepted it.  Great.  But now what?  Are you unsure of what things will be like at the job? Do you know what is expected of you? What do you expect from the position?

These pages will guide you through the key components of your work term. However, feel free to contact your co-op office before or during the work term should you have any questions or concerns regarding the position.

1. Enrollment Confirmation

When your co-op position has been confirmed by your co-op ofice, you will receive a placement confirmation email which will include information on enrolling in your Co-op Practicum course, ensuring your U-Pass exemption (if applicable), dropping your courses, along with some next steps and deadlines to keep in mind throughout your work term.

2. Complete Bridging Online II

If you have not completed Bridging Online II, please register and complete BOL II before you begin your co-op practicum or within the first month of your placement.

3. For Outside BC and International Placements

  • Check with your Medical Services Plan (MSP) about coverage outside of BC - especially for work terms over 4 months.
  • International Students will have to take a Bridging International Learning Course (BIL). The International Co-op office will contact you for further information regarding your international placement. (note: you will need to have your visa, work permit, medical coverage, accommodation, etc. information ready)

Some things to remember

When starting a new job it’s important to remember that the people you work for will be your references for future co-ops and full-time employment later on. Treat co-workers and people at every level in the office with the same courtesy and respect that you yourself would like to be treated.

Keep in mind that co-op is part of your education–an educational tool. Activities that relate to feedback and reflection are a critical part of your personal and professional development.  Your Co-op Coordinator is available to you as a guide and to support your learning throughout the work term so talk to them if you have questions, concerns or any uncertainties.
