Legal Studies

The School of Criminology at SFU provides education in Legal Studies at the Undergraduate and Graduate Level.

Undergraduate Program: Minor Program and Post-Baccalaureate Diploma Program

The minor in legal studies and the legal studies post-baccalaureate diploma will draw on existing courses from several different disciplines. The idea is to apply a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of law and legal institutions, approaching the subject from different social, economic and philosophical contexts. The programs are designed to offer an excellent foundation for students planning on attending law school and for those ultimately pursuing graduate work in law and social policy, public administration and other related programs.

Graduate Program: MA in Applied Legal Studies (Notaries Public) Program

This master’s program is for students intending to practice as notaries public. The degree is granted on the successful completion of a 16 month course of study, and prepares students for admission to notarial practice, and for business and public service.  Students will be studying at SFU's Surrey Campus

The number of students entering notarial practice in British Columbia is ultimately governed by the Society of Notaries Public of British Columbia, and accordingly, conferral of this degree is no guarantee of a position in either the necessary years of articles or in notarial practice.
