Kelly Vodden received her degree in Honours Business Administration at the University of Western Ontario and her Masters in Geography at SFU, examining the pursuit of sustainable development through community economic development and fisheries co-management in the case study community of Alert Bay, British Columbia. She was Coordinator of the Centre’s three-year ‘Forest Communities Project’ and Coordinator and Principal Researcher for the project ‘Assessing the Information Needs of Aboriginal Entrepreneurs in British Columbia’

An Instructor for the Centre since 2000, primarily through Distance Education, Kelly has taught at Simon Fraser University and Royal Roads Universities and is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Geography at SFU. Her research examines models of multi-level, collaborative governance in Canadian coastal regions. As a consultant Kelly has worked with government, non-government and private sector organizations, communities, First Nations and academic institutions. Recent projects include facilitating regional cooperation in municipal infrastructure and service delivery on behalf of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Municipalities and research on community adaptation as part of the national project ‘A Comparative Assessment of the Capacity of Canadian Rural Communities to Adapt to Uncertain Futures’.

Kelly is co-author of the book Second Growth: Community Economic Development in Rural and Small Town British Columbia (with S. Markey et al), has authored numerous other book chapters, journal articles, and reports and lectured widely on topics related to sustainable community, rural and regional development and community-based resource management.
