Lena is a Researcher with the Centre for Sustainable Community Development and a PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography at SFU. She also works as a Research Assistant with the BC-Alberta Social Economy Research Alliance (BALTA).  Her areas of research interest include social enterprise / the social economy, organizational learning and social innovation.  Her doctoral research is focused on spaces for social innovation, exploring non-profit shared space models as learning communities for social change.  Lena’s academic background includes a B.A. from Trent University in Environmental Policy and Planning and a Masters of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo with a focus on community food security. Her professional background includes work in environmental consulting, community economic development, and community consultation and facilitation.
