Gateway to CED

People all over the world are working with their neighbours to create a shared vision of a healthy, sustainable community and collaborating to bring their vision to life. Some call their work Community Economic Development (CED), others have no name for what they are doing but persist because they know and feel that it is something that they can not "not do."

CED is a community-based and community-directed process that explicitly combines social and economic development and is directed towards fostering the economic, social, ecological and cultural well-being of communities and regions. This site can direct you to a few stories of successful CED that will inspire and inform you as they show you what CED can do. This site can help you begin to imagine the possibilities for your own community and guide you in the creation of your own vision. Once you're ready to learn how to make your vision come to life, you can go travel further with the guidance this site provides.

Interest and activity in Community Economic Development is widespread. The network of those who are engaged in CED vast. The resources that are available to support CED activity are rich and varied. This Gateway to CED is designed to help you discover and explore CED. You are at the threshold. Where do you want to go next?

If you are not familiar with our site and/or are new to Community Economic Development, we suggest you take a look at the Site Overview, then proceed to the Introduction to CED. If you are familier with our site and have a specific aspect of CED in which you are interested, head to the Gateway Contents for quick and easy access to specific pages. Be sure to let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

On behalf of the Centre for Sustainable Community Development at Simon Fraser University, welcome to the Gateway and enjoy your stay.
