Cohort Requirements
Participants work through the program with a group of peers — a cohort — sharing experiences, ideas and knowledge.
Cohorts must complete eight program courses.
Eight courses can be completed in one academic year (10 months). Cohort students should complete the certificate within two years.
Assignments
Assignments are structured to allow participants to focus their learning on issues and opportunities in their own communities. Students often use assignments to move real projects forward. On average, participants spend 8-10 hours on each assignment.
Assignment due dates are two weeks after each course.
Course Exemptions
There are no exemptions for any course in the Community Economic Development Certificate.
Individual Courses
Participants not enrolled in the cohort program may register in individual courses when space is available. No program application form or fee is required, but a course registration form and regular tuition payment is required.
Applying Individual Courses Retroactively to the Certificate
Participants who complete individual courses may apply them retroactively to the certificate after applying to the cohort program, provided all assignments were completed on deadline and courses were completed within four years of cohort application.
If assignments were not completed, then retroactive credit may be given upon submitting the course assignment and a $75 marking fee. Only courses in the Community Economic Development Certificate are eligible for retroactive credit.
