History

The Canadian Undergraduate Physics Conference was first held in 1965 as a join project between McGill University and the University of Toronto. Initially a form of a student exchange between the two universities, CUPC has now grown into a major annual symposium that hosted students from across the country and has changed its venue from university to university each year. CUPC has not only been an opportunity for the undergraduate students to gather and present their research to their peers in the form of a talk or a poster, but also for the networking of professionals, graduate students, and professors.

With no overseeing body for it, CUPC has always been put together by volunteering students from each hosting institution. Simon Fraser University, 33 years after last hosting the CUPC in 1974, is pleased to be hosting again this year. The events currently planned include (but are not limited to): student presentations, tours of local physics facilities as well as the University's own lab space, and a series of lectures by world-renowned physicists. This year will be the first time we also invite students from the United States, to encourage them to also begin a nation-wide undergraduate conference of physics.
