Chinese Mobilities and Canada

On June 19–20 2014, Simon Fraser University hosted the first ever “Workshop on Chinese Mobilities and Canada” co-organized by the David See-Chai Lam Centre for International Communication, the Asia-Canada Program (Simon Fraser University) and the Department of Sociology (University of Calgary). The conference participants examined Chinese mobilities and transnationalism and discussed the applicability of the transnationalism and new mobility paradigms to the Chinese experience in Canada and elsewhere.

The conference was based on collaborative research for an edited volume on Chinese mobility and Canada edited by Lloyd Wong, for publication by UBC Press. This publication brings together analyses and findings by researchers examining historical, contemporary and emergent forms of Chinese mobilities that have, or have had, significant implications for Canadian society.
