Criminology Graduate Student Research and Education Grant

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of the grant is to supporSchool of Criminology graduate students’ thesis or dissertation research by giving them financial support to travel to conduct research, to enhance their education through participation (e.g., presentation of research or research in progress) at a conference or workshop, or to attend a course not available at SFU.
  2. Recipients must be registered in the Master's or Doctoral program at the School of Criminology, in good standing (not “on leave” or on extension).
  3. The application must be endorsed by the applicant’s senior supervisor in the space provided on the application form, and accompanied by
    1. for research support, a prospectus of not more than 750 words
    2. for conference or workshop papers, program information and the abstract submitted
    3. for courses, an outline or syllabus.
  4. Awards will be contingent on verification of paper acceptance or course enrolment
  5. The grants will vary with the amount of money that is available, but will be limited to $250 or less per award.
  6. The completed application and all supporting documents must be received by the department of enrolment.
  7. Applications will be reviewed by the Criminology Graduate Programs Committee.
  8. The scholarly merit of submissions will be the primary criterion for adjudication.
  9. The awards will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Graduate Programs Committee in Criminology, on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
  10. Reimbursement of travel expenses should be made through departmental accounts by submitting original receipts to the Departmental Assistant. The amount of the Criminology Graduate Student Research and Education Grant will be transferred to a departmental account from the Endowment fund upon receipt of a Departmental Journal Voucher from the Departmental Assistant.
