China Scholarship Council

Overview

Simon Fraser University is honoured to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) which will provide joint funding for students pursuing graduate studies at the Doctoral (PhD) level.

Value & Tenure of Award

CSC Portion: living allowances (including health insurance), a “round trip” airfare to SFU by the most economical route, and visa application fees. Valued at $1,700 per month.

SFU Portion: funding equivalent to the cost of tuition up to 48 months (PhD) under the condition that the CSC’s support is secured. Note that the SFU portion is the Provost International Fellowship and successful candidates should be nominated by the departments.

Total Award Value: the annual combined award amount is $25,400 derived from the two sources: $20,400 China Scholarship Council + $5,000 Provost International Fellowship

Eligibility

You may be eligible to apply under this Agreement if you:

*If you are an overseas Chinese student currently studying abroad, you may also apply but need to contact the Education Office of the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China in Canada.

Application process and deadlines

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you must:

  • follow all regular application procedures for admission to SFU;
  • submit an application for admission to Simon Fraser University by the deadline listed on the departmental website.  Regardless, admission applications must be submitted by January 15 for the upcoming Fall term;
  • please note, on your SFU application form, that you have applied to CSC or will be applying for the CSC competition. Please specify the deadline date for the CSC competition at your home university;
  • review the application process for the 2013/14 CSC competition on the CSC website
  • once you have received an offer of admission from Simon Fraser University (no later than March 20), you must apply to the CSC scholarship program through your home university in China. You will require a copy of your official admission letter from SFU as part of the application process.
  • CSC will inform you by May 31 if you are successful in obtaining CSC funding. Please let your SFU graduate program know so they may nominate you for the Provost International Fellowship
