Bruce E. Welch Award for Science and Technology Commercialization

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this award is to recognize and provide financial support to one or more graduate students in the Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology Commercialization in the Beedie School of Business whose research shows promise for commercialization.
  2. Awards will be granted to a student who fulfills the following criteria:
    1.  is registered at SFU in the Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology Commercialization 
    2. whose research shows promise for commercialization
    3. who demonstrates excellence in one of the following ways:
      1. has demonstrated academic excellence at the graduate level (defined as a CGPA of 3.50 or greater), or
      2. has demonstrated excellent professional experience and accomplishments based on the following
        1.  has a minimum of 4 years of work experience in a leadership or management role, including professional research experience
        2. has demonstrated experience and accomplishments relevant to innovation
        3. has a minimum upper division (or final two year) CGPA of 3.0
  3. Applications will be made via the Graduate Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and should include:
    1. copies of post secondary transcripts
    2. copy of the applicant's CV
    3. one letter of reference from an individual familiar with the innovative nature of the applicant's work
    4. one page proposal describing the viability of their research for commercialization
  4. The scholarship will be granted by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee, upon the nomination of the Academic Director, Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology Commercialization.
