Coastal Zone Canada (BC) Association Graduate Scholarship in Coastal Studies

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this award is to provide financial support for a student affiliated with the Centre for Coastal Studies who is entering or pursuing a master’s or doctoral graduate degree program focussing on community-based approaches to coastal management, specific to issues within the province of British Columbia.
  2. The criteria for this award are:
    1. demonstrated academic excellence at the undergraduate level and, if applicable, at the graduate level
    2. full-time registration at Simon Fraser University in a graduate program focussing on community-based approaches to coastal management. The research must be conducted in affiliation with the Centre for Coastal Studies
    3. promise of outstanding achievement at the graduate level with particular emphasis on intellectual ability, originality and ability in research
  3. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  4. NOMINATIONS by departments are made on the Application for a Private Graduate Scholarship form and must be accompanied by:
    1. copies of all post-secondary transcripts
    2. one letter of reference from a faculty member familiar with the nominee’s academic merits and potential
    3. a copy of the nominee’s proposed outline of studies
  5. The award recipient will be selected from the nominations received by the Director of the Centre for Coastal Studies.
  6. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
