John Ellis Graduate Entrance Scholarship in Business Administration
Terms of Reference
- The purpose of the John Ellis Graduate Entrance Scholarship in Business Administration is to attract the best and brightest graduate students to the Beedie School of Business.
- The John Ellis Graduate Scholarship is a one-term award valued at a portion of the earned income from the endowment. If multiple awards are handed out, when possible, one of the scholarships each year will be awarded to a student who is active in social innovation and the nonprofit sector, with preference given to those working internationally.
- To be nominated, a student must be applying to enter a graduate program in the Beedie School of Business.
- The criteria for this award are:
- demonstrated academic and research excellence at the undergraduate level, and if applicable, at the graduate level, with particular emphasis on intellectual ability, originality and ability in research
- promise of outstanding achievement at the graduate level
- demonstrated academic and research excellence at the undergraduate level, and if applicable, at the graduate level, with particular emphasis on intellectual ability, originality and ability in research
- To receive the award, the student must be registered in the intended graduate program at SFU.
- This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
- Nomination is made on the Application for a Private Graduate Scholarship form and must be accompanied by:
- copies of all post-secondary transcripts
- a curriculum vitae summarizing scholastic achievements and work relevant to the aims of this scholarship
- evidence of professional activity in the social and nonprofit sector with preference given to those working internationally, in the event there are multiple awards available
- one letter of reference from a faculty member familiar with the nominee’s academic work
- copies of all post-secondary transcripts
- The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee, upon the recommendation of the Dean of the Beedie School of Business.
