Gloria Gutman Conference Travel Award

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of the Gloria Gutman Conference Travel Award is to provide financial support for a student in a graduate program in the Department of Gerontology to help with the costs associated with participating in an academic conference. Students will be evaluated based on their previous annual progress as determined by the Gerontology’s Graduate Program Committee.
  2. The Gloria Gutman Conference Travel Award is an annual award.
  3. Students must be nominated for this award by the Graduate Program Committee in the Department of Gerontology.
  4. The criteria for this award are:
    1. full-time registration and in good academic standing in a graduate program in the Department of Gerontology at SFU
    2. demonstrated academic and research excellence at the post-graduate level with particular emphasis on intellectual ability, originality and ability in research
    3. acceptance of the candidate’s abstract for presentation at a suitable conference on aging
  5. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  6. The NOMINATION is made on the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. a current, unofficial SFU transcript or a copy of the official transcript of the most recent degree program completed
    2. a concise outline of the proposed benefits of attending the conference
    3. one letter of reference from a faculty member familiar with the candidate’s work
  7. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee, upon the recommendation of Gerontology’s Graduate Program Committee.
