Terms of Reference

1. The purpose of the Robert Russell Family / First Nations Graduate Award is to provide financial support for a First Nations or aboriginal graduate student who is entering or pursuing graduate studies in the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Health Sciences or the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
   
2. The Robert Russell Family / First Nations Graduate Award is valued at a portion of the earned income and will be awarded annually.
   
3. The criteria for this award are:
   
   1. registration at Simon Fraser University in a graduate program
      
   2. demonstrated academic excellence at the undergraduate level and, if applicable, at the graduate level
      
   3. aboriginal student (First Nations, status or non-status, Métis, or Inuit)
      
4. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
   
5. Application is made on the Application for a Private Graduate Scholarship form and must be accompanied by:
   
   1. copies of all post-secondary transcripts
      
   2. a concise outline of the proposed or actual research project
      
   3. two letters of reference from faculty members familiar with the applicant's scholarly work and academic background
      
6. The completed application and all supporting documents must be received by the department of enrolment.
7. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies, on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
