Terms of Reference

1. The purpose of this award is to provide financial support for a student pursuing a graduate program in Romance languages, Romance linguistics, or a related field.
2. The Dr. Tai Whan Kim Graduate Scholarship in Languages and Linguistics is a one-term award valued at the earned income from the endowment.
   
3. The criteria for this award are:
   
   1. demonstrated academic excellence at the undergraduate level and, if applicable, at the graduate level
      
   2. registration at Simon Fraser University in a graduate program and conducting research into Romance languages, Romance linguistics or a related discipline
      
   3. promise of outstanding achievement at the graduate level with particular emphasis on intellectual ability, originality and ability in research.
      
4. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
   
5. Application is made on the Application for a Private Graduate Scholarship form and must be accompanied by:
   1. copies of all post secondary transcripts
      
   2. one letter of reference from a faculty member familiar with the applicant's work
      
   3. a concise outline of the proposed program of studies
      
6. The completed application and all supporting documents must be received by the department of enrolment.
   
7. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
