Association of Women in Finance Graduate Scholarship

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of the Association of Women in Finance Graduate Scholarship is to recognize and reward an outstanding female student pursuing a graduate degree in the Beedie School of Business including the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Finance, and the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programs with past work experience in the field of finance and have future plans to pursue a career in the area of Finance.
  2. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  3. The criteria for this award are:
    1. demonstrated academic excellence at the undergraduate level and, if applicable, at the graduate level
    2. registration at Simon Fraser University in a graduate program in the Beedie School of Business
    3. previous work experience in the field of Finance
    4. future career plans in the field of Finance
  4. Students must be nominated for the scholarship by the Associate Dean of the Graduate Programs in the Beedie School of Business. Nominations are made on the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. a letter from the Associate Dean of the Beedie School of Business describing the merits of the candidate
    2. a current, unofficial SFU transcript and a copy of the transcript of the most recent degree program completed
    3. a curriculum vitae summarizing scholastic achievements and work relevant to the aims of this scholarship
    4. a letter from the candidate detailing future work plans
    5. a letter of reference or other documentary evidence reflecting the candidate’s extracurricular activities such as volunteer work, service on or chairing community committees, mentoring, coaching or fundraising
  5. Preference will be given to female students with a history of volunteer/ community service experience.
  6. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on the nomination of the Associate Dean of the Graduate Programs in the Beedie School of Business, and on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
