Health and Counselling Workshops: Students in Distress / Support over Suicide
SFU Health and Counselling Services is offering two free workshops on July 25. If you regularly interact with students or have a leadership role in a campus group, you may find these particularly valuable.
Support Over Suicide
Wednesday, July 25, 9–11:30am
MBC 0300, SFU Burnaby
Workshops include training on key interpersonal skills (empathic listening, paraphrasing, and compassion) and steps on how to ask someone if they are suicidal, how to refer them to the appropriate resources, and how to be supportive and intervene in an effective and timely manner.
Dealing with Distress and Distressing
Wednesday July 25, 11:45 am–1:15 pm
MBC 0300, SFU Burnaby
The Dealing with Students in Distress and Distressing workshops will give participants the tools and know-how to recognize when students are in distress, when they are stepping over boundaries, or when students may be experiencing mental health issues and how to respond appropriately.
