The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of the Government of Japan is currently accepting applications for its 2014 Research Student Scholarship.
The Research Student Scholarship is aimed at university graduates, born on or after April 2, 1979 (for the 2014 scholarship year) who wish to study as research students. The research study area should be the same field that the applicant has studied or a related field. The term of the scholarship is 18 months to two years (including 6 months of Japanese language training) starting in April or October 2014.
The scholarship's value:
Travel to and from Japan
Fees for matriculation, tuition and entrance examinations at a university
¥ 143,000 (approx $1,770 Can) per month for research students
¥ 144,000 (approx $1,780 Can) per month for students in Master's or professional degree programs
¥ 145,000 (approx $1,790 Can) per month for students in PhD programs
Applicants who successfully pass the written application screening are required to undertake an interview and examination (English and Japanese language) to be held in late June/early July.
