WAGS/UMI Thesis or Dissertation Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for three WAGS/UMI Awards from the Western Association of Graduate Schools.

  • WAGS/UMI Innovation in Technology Award to a master's thesis or doctoral dissertation for the development of an innovative technology and its utilization for the innovative application of technology to scholarship. A nominee must have earned the master’s or doctoral degree within the period of July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. Award is $1,500 to the recipient and travel expenses for the student and advisor to receive the award at the Association's annual meeting.
  • WAGS/UMI Distinguished Master's Thesis Awards for degrees in Biological Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Life Sciences or Engineering, awarded between July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.  Award is $1,000 to the recipient and travel expenses for the student and advisor to receive the award at the Association's annual meeting.
  • WAGS/UMI Distinguished Master's Thesis Awards for degrees in Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, and Business, awarded between July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.  Award is $1,000 to the recipient and travel expenses for the student and advisor to receive the award at the Association's annual meeting.

SFU may nominate one thesis or dissertation in each category. To be considered for that nomination, please contact your graduate program assistant and/or chair as soon as possible as their internal deadline will be very soon. (Departments will submit to their Faculty office by August 7 and Faculties must submit their nomination package to Graduate Studies by August 18, 2013.)

A university awards committee will review all submissions and make SFU's nomination by the award's deadline of September 3, 2013.

Past recipient: Andrew Top received the Innovation in Technology Award at the 2013 awards ceremony in Tucson, Arizona.
