We’re proud of our alumni accomplishments. SFU’s aq magazine recently highlighted alumni who are changing the world.
- Yuhe Tony Song (PhD’91) leads a group of scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory who have developed an improved method of predicting the size and intensity of tsunamis. Song recently outlined the methodology in Popular Science.
- Wahiba Chair (MBA’09) created CarrotLines, a mobile phone application that helps identify the content in food products so consumers can meet their nutritional and dietary needs.
- Dino Djalal (MA’91) is the new Indonesian ambassador to the United States. The rising star has been the spokesman for Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono since 2004.
- Francisco Ibáñez-Carrasco (BA’90, MA’93, PhD’00) received the Canadian Working Group on HIV and Rehabilitation Award of Excellence for his exceptional leadership.
- Oxford University professor Colin Macdonald (MSc’03, PhD’08) is the winner of the 2010 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Richard C. DiPrima Prize.
- James Delgado (PhD’06) (Wikipedia) is leading an A-list of maritime scientists to virtually “raise” the Titanic. The team of oceanographers and archaeologists are using underwater robots to take three-dimensional measurements and construct a view of the vessel.
- Camilla Speller (MA ‘05, PhD ‘10) was awarded the Governor General’s gold medal, SFU’s highest graduate student honour, for her innovative work on the domestication of turkeys.
