Originally from Taiyuan, Shanxi, Min (Michelle) Fan earned her Bachelor and Master degrees in Digital Media Arts from the Communication University of China, and went on to work for the Beijing Olympic Games as the video editor and director for all interstitials of the hockey games.

It seems fitting that her motion graphic and interaction design work on hockey would eventually bring her to Canada. She first came to Vancouver to pursue her second Master's degree in the Centre for Digital Media at SFU. During this time, she developed a great interest in child-centric interaction design. She confesses, "I fell deeply in love with the beautiful city of Vancouver."

She's now a PhD candidate in SFU's School of Interactive Arts and Technology. Her research focuses on how to apply new media technology — such as ubiquitous and tangible computing technologies — into children’s education to provide them better interactive learning experiences and outcomes.

Through her research, she hopes that people will get a better understanding of how technologies are benefiting and evolving the field of children’s education in the digital age.

Michelle was one of the successful recipients of the SFU-China Scholarship Council agreement, signed by SFU President Petter in July 2011.
