We're sharing the contest entries from our Photos of Home grad student competition.

Today's photo is from Nico Dicecco, Department of English. He writes:

As a student, I've had to move a lot, often across the country, and each new town provides its own ways of helping me feel at home. In Vancouver, these bees were a big part of the process.

This picture was taken just outside my apartment, along Great Northern Way. On one side of the street is a graveyard for retired trains--very industrial, alienating, icky; on the other side is a long row of blackberry bushes, the fruit from which delighted me on my trips to and from SFU when I was just beginning to get settled last summer. But I didn't actually see the bees, without whom there would be no blackberries, until the following spring when I took this picture. Consider it my love letter to the pollinators that welcomed me to my new home.
