Contest: Photos of Home | Mohammad Hosseini

January 23, 2012

We're sharing the contest entries from our Photos of Home grad student competition.

Today's photos are from Mohammad Hosseini, School of Computing Science. He writes:

This is my home, preparing Haft Sin (above) or the seven 'S'; a traditional table setting for Nowruz (the Iranian spring celebration). The original "Haft Chin" items are a mirror (symbolizing the sky); an apple (earth); candles (fire); Golab rose water (water); Sabzeh or wheat/barley sprouts (plants); goldfish (animals); and painted eggs (humans and fertility).

The photo below was taken in Ramsar, a city in Northern Iran known as "the bride of Iran". To me, the gladiola flower, with the green hills and trees in the background, is a symbol of the beauty of Iran.
